Fame: Michael Jackson performs Billie Jean in 1983
The hat worn by Michael Jackson when he sang Billie Jean on the most-watched TV special of all time goes on sale in Britain today.

The trademark black fedora is among 17 items of the late star’s memorabilia put up for auction by pal David Gest.

The lots, on sale at West Midlands auctioneer Fieldings, include the iconic hat worn at the 30th Anniversary Special concerts in New York in 2001, watched by 450 million TV viewers worldwide.

The gigs were Jackson’s last major shows before his death in 2009.

The signed fedora has a guide price of £2,000-£3,000.

A song book from the show could fetch £2,500.

Auctioneer Will Farmer said: “It’s amazing to get hold of such rare items relating to one of the world’s biggest pop stars.”
